Once upon a time stood an impressive XIVth century edifice named "Beaulieu". This building was situated opposite the actual club house chateau, where the first tee is today. The chateau of Beaulieu was knocked down at the beginning of the XIXth century and the only remains we can see today is the dovecote, now used for our golf clubs & trolleys. The total destruction of Beaulieu was mostly due to the mentality of the rich & modern XIXth century owners at that time ; to rebuild functional & richer buildings as soon as they felt like doing it and knocking down the old ones. The actual club-house chateau was built in 1820. Modern & practical, this building had central heating which was luxury for the beginning of the XIXth century ! The underground cellars were used as kitchens with a pantry and a boiler room. These rooms are now used as changing rooms, fully equiped with showers, lockers & toilets. The ground floor had the same number of rooms as it has now but these rooms were mainly used for receptions, family gatherings & dinners. Today the ground floor is the golf & hotel reception area, we also have a restaurant, bar & lounge. All the family & guest bedrooms were upstairs on the first floor, the smaller bedrooms on the second floor were only used for the staff who worked & lodged in the chateau. For example, in 1850 just the park alone required 15 full time workers. During the second world war the German army took over the chateau. A general and his 8 men directed from the chateau the V1 bombing launching site in the Eawy forest. Our chateau was very lucky to not have been destructed at the end of the war by the Germans. Unfortunately this is what happened to another beautiful chateau only 1km down the road. After the war the chateau came back to it's original family to become a holiday home until 1985. Saint-Saens golf course opened it's first five holes in the spring of 1988 and a year later the course was completed with a total of 18 holes. Belonging to the hotel & casino group of Partouche since 1995, Saint-Saens golf course is now a par 71 of 6000 metres designed through a 200-acre estate next to the Eawy forest, reputed to be one of the most beautiful beech groves of France. Over the past few years our course has obtained a perfect blend of picturesque & diversity making it a good, not too testing holiday golf course.
